
Jinggoy Balane is a versatile percussionist and music scholar specializing in both Philippine and international music traditions. He is an Asian Music major, with expertise in Kulintang instruments (agong, gandingan, dabakan, babandir), and a deep knowledge of Philippine indigenous music spanning the northern to southern regions of the country.
Beyond Philippine music, Jinggoy is proficient in Indonesian Gamelan, Chinese percussion and erhu (fiddle), and Afro-Latin percussion, including Cuban and Brazilian styles. He was a member of the UP Kekeli West African Drum and Dance Ensemble and the Barikata Kulintang Jazz Ensemble, collaborating with esteemed musicians such as Royal Hartigan, Aga Butocan, and Kanapia Kalanduyan. Jinggoy represented the Philippines as a delegate to the 2009 Zhangjiajie World Music Festival with Tugma.
He is also a sought-after celebrity drum coach, having worked with Rhian Ramos, Marian Rivera, and Sixto Dantes. Jinggoy combines traditional and contemporary approaches to percussion, creating dynamic performances and fostering the next generation of musicians.
